Commemorating Martin Gardner, a brilliant mathematician, puzzler and maths populariser, event will be happening all around the world. We'll be teaming up with the Halloween Pumpkin Festival at the National Botanic Gardens for Maths, Magic and Fun. There will be fun for all ages with puzzles and performers, magicians and clowns all showing the fun and fascinating side of maths.

Martin Gardner devoted his life to Maths and science. A prolific writer, his work touched an enormous range of subjects, from maths, logic and science to literature and philosophy. He is best known for his work with Scientific American, where he wrote a regular column titled Mathematical Games for over twenty five years. The column explored the world of recreational maths, providing an insight into the world of maths even to those who would normally feel excluded from it because of their mathematical ability.

The Gathering for Gardner is a festival which takes place around the world each year in honor of this great man. This year the date is the 20th of October, right at the end of Maths Week 2013. To celebrate, the Maths Week Team will be in the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin from 11:00 to 17:00, where we will be offering Maths games, puzzles and challenges to all comers.
